Christmas Party Open House
A big 'Thank You' to everyone who braved the cold weather to attend our Christmas Party Open House. Over 100 people stopped by to view the pets up for adoption, shop in Norm’s Nook – our on-site pet supply store - and leave a donation for the pets that won’t have a home this holiday.
A number of pets were adopted and left the shelter for their forever homes during the party, and we received over $1,800 in cash donations. Loads of donated items that were on the shelter pets' wish list were dropped off or purchased from Norm’s Nook where sales were four times what they usually are on Saturdays!
Santa stopped by to wish everyone a happy holiday, and CTV Television covered the festivities.
Tim Horton’s provided hot chocolate and Cochrane IGA made special Christmas sugar cookies for our guests.
The shelter is echoing with yips and meows of gratitude!
For those who stayed warm at home, it's not too late to help our homeless animals this holiday season. Click here for the Shelter Wish List for Santa and shop at Norm's Nook for any of these items!
Mutt Strut 2009
On Saturday, September 12th over 100 dogs and their guardians strutted along the scenic river pathways of Cochrane in the 8th annual Mutt Strut to raise funds for the CAHS and the animals in our care.
The event was a huge success! Over $47,500 dollars was raised and some additional pledges are still coming in. After the walk participants visited vendors in the market place, stopped by Gypsy Rose’s tent to have their pet’s paw read, ran their pet through the agility course, and had our volunteer groomer trim their pet’s nails.
The doggie fashion and doggie talent shows were a big hit. Many prizes were awarded including a trip for four on the Powder Hound Express in the Canadian Rockies courtesy of Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours.

The annual Cochrane & Area Humane Society Saving Lives - Changing Lives Golf Classic raised just over $45,000 at the Links of Glen Eagles on Monday, August 17th. Thanks to the sponsors, supporters, golfers and volunteers all of the money raised will go towards our internal animals hospital – surgeries, medicines, vaccines, etc. Over all it was a great day – the weather co-operated, the 133 golfers had fun – someone even won a car in the Dodge putting contest and drove it away after the tournament! The prizes were a hit and the silent and live auctions did very well.

Gala Fundraiser
The 5th annual Saving Lives – Changing Lives Fundraising Gala on June 13th set a new record for proceeds raised - almost $40,000 will go towards the care of lost, unwanted or surrendered animals. This year’s gala was generously sponsored by ATB Financial and featured CCMA’s Female Artist of the Year Jessie Farrell who performed for a sold out crowd.
Guests arrived at 6pm for cocktails. Graham Mehain provided musical entertainment while guests mingled and started bidding on silent auction items. Leslie Horton with Global TV hosted the evening, and blues guitarist Leroy Cassell warmed up the crowd before Jessie Ferrell took the stage just after 9pm.
Exciting items such as WestJet tickets with a resort stay, a TRAK kayak, and a Cochrane Fire/EMS Ladies’ Night Out were up for grabs and auctioned off by Bill Brown during the live auction.
Special thanks go out to our hard working gala event committee and the volunteers that helped out during the evening. We would also like to recognize the following individuals and organizations who offered their support:
