The Cochrane & Area Humane Society is pleased offer one-time volunteer opportunities to corporate, community and youth groups for team building and animal welfare education. Duties for group volunteers will support the mission of the Society but may not have direct contact with animals. Your day will start off with a short orientation, which includes the history of the CAHS, safety measures and policies for volunteers, and behaviour and medical information that may be important during your volunteer time. After that, your team will be split into smaller groups and you will complete a variety of activities that help the shelter. Group volunteers will help us with many tasks, including, but not limited to, administration help, maintenance help, operations work and animal socialization. Group size is minimum 6, maximum 25 people.
All volunteers would be required to complete a liability waiver prior to volunteering. Children and youth volunteers must have parent/guardian permission and be accompanied by adults; (ages 13-17 – ratio 1:6, under 13 – ratio 1:4). To provide the best possible volunteer experience we ask that group commit to a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 6 hours.
As part of our mission to help care for homeless companion animals, we do ask volunteer groups make a donation in their name to participate in the volunteer program. This can be a monetary donation, items from our wish list or supplies for a special project you may be asked to complete. All monies and goods go right back into the shelter, helping the animals in our care.
Group volunteering is available dependent on shelter needs and staff/volunteer availability, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss our opportunities and book available dates.
We changed Chloe’s name to River! She responded to it from the moment we’ve called her that and her recall is coming along so well! It helps that she is very food motivated. She’s learned to shake both paws and give a high 10, spin, sit, wait, and lay down. Her favourite thing to do is run, and man is she fast! Her second favourite thing to do is play with her sister Ellie Mae! They tucker each other out every day! On walks, Ellie’s bloodhound nose points out all the best smells and River always wants to sniff it too. We think she is very happy here in her new home she certainly looks it! Thanks so much for helping us add River to our family!
