Because of you, Tess got a second chance -

and 11 puppies got a safe beginning.

Tess arrived at our doors scared, alone, and heavily pregnant. Somehow, she seemed to understand that she was finally safe.

‍

Just hours after arriving, Tess went into labour and delivered 11 healthy puppies.

For thoes 11 puppies, their story began very differently from their mother's. They were born into safety, surrounded by care, and given the chance to grow, play, and thrive. When they were old enough, each one found a loving home.

Tess was a gentle, devoted mother, and her puppies carried the same sweet, trusting nature she showed to everyone around her.

‍

But Tess was hiding pain we could not see.

‍

X-rays revealed an old, improperly healed femur fracture caused by major trauma, suspected to be from a gunshot wound. The injury had left her with ongoing pain and difficulty moving - made even harder by the weight of pregnancy.

To give her a life free from pain, we made the compassionate decision to amputate her hind leg. Tess met recovery with the same quiet courage she had shown from the beginning. Before long, she was up, moving, and learning what comfort could feel like.

‍

For 116 days, Tess was surrounded by safety, medical care, kindness, and love.

‍

Because of donors like you, she had the time and care she needed to heal and begin again.

‍

Sometimes, that care changes one life. Sometimes, it changes many.

‍

But Tess is not the only animal who arrives at CAHS needing someone to help them through.

‍

At just six weeks old, Luna and her littermates were surrendered to our care. While her siblings tumbled and player, Luna stayed close to the kennel walls, carefully feeling her way through an unfamiliar world.

‍

During her intake exam, we discovered that Luna is blind in both eyes, due to congenital glaucoma. Our veterinary team made the decision to remove both eyes to protect her from onging infections and complications. Today, Luna is awaiting surgery and will need some extra time to grow before the procedure can be performed.

‍

Tess and Luna's stories are different, but they share the same truth: When an animal arrives hurt, frightened, or fragile, your support can change the rest of their life.

‍

Every day, animals come through our doors needing medical care, safe shelter, rehabilitation, and the time they need to heal. Veterinary costs and the cost of caring for these animals continue to rise, and we cannot meet this growing need alone.

‍

That is why we have set a goal to raise $200,000 through this donor appeal.

‍

One second chance can have a ripple effect. Tess received the care she needed, and 11 puppies were born into safety and went on to loving homes. Will you make a gift today to help us reach our goal and make sure the next Tess or Luna gets the second chance they deserve?

‍

Because of you, animals who once knew fear, pain, or neglect can discover safety, comfort, kindness, and a future.

‍

Please make a gift and help us reach our $200,000 goal.
